Steiner, Henry go 1-2 to lead Laramie boys

Senior Albert Steiner led an impressive performance Saturday for Laramie High at the V.A. Hospital Grounds in Sheridan as the Plainsmen placed five of their runners in the top 20 to claim the program's sixth straight 4A state cross country title. 

Steiner ran 15 minutes, 55.1 seconds to win, while teammate and fellow senior Philip Henry was runner-up in 16:01.1.  

Cheyenne East junior Mackenzie Marler won her first 4A state title (17:55.4) passing Cheyenne Central's Aubrey Frentheway in the last 800 meters. Central won with 44 points, placing four runners in the top 10. 

Star Valley's boys easily won their sixth straight 3A crown as junior Asefa Wetzel won the race in 16:28.4. Star Valley claimed five of the top seven spots to tally 22 points.

The Star Valley girls claimed the 3A title for the second year in a row, edging out Cody, 50-51. Freshman Sydney Thorvaldson of Rawlins clocked an impressive 17:49.4, the fastest time of the day for girls, to win the individual crown. 

Pine Bluffs girls held on to win its eighth consecutive 2A title, scoring 50 points. Hailey Jones of Moorcroft won her second straight title (20:31.4). 

Wyoming Indian returned to the top after finishing second last year, scoring 40 points. Jarom Herring of Encampment won in 17:50.2.
